In recent months, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s public pronouncements have raised eyebrows due to their calculated and often critical tone toward President William Ruto.
Whether addressing crowds in his home region or elsewhere in the country, the DP has increasingly adopted rhetoric that appears crafted to undermine the President’s leadership.
The persistent political undertones of these speeches leave one wondering why the Deputy President would choose to embark on such a self-defeating path.
The question at hand is: Why has the DP opted to instigate a political battle against the very administration he serves? This approach, whether driven by personal or regional motives, is counterproductive and unnecessary, especially given the pressing challenges facing the nation.
Rather than stoking divisions, the DP should be championing unity and working in tandem with the President to address the myriad of issues affecting Kenyans.
The role of the Deputy President is not confined to serving a particular region or constituency but rather to represent the entire Republic of Kenya.
It is therefore perplexing that the DP continually frames his speeches with a regional bias, often centering on the concerns of Mt. Kenya, while ignoring the broader national issues.

This misplaced political strategy does not only weaken his standing as a national leader but also alienates him from the larger Kenyan populace.
He must shift his focus from regional politicking and concentrate on the pressing economic challenges that the nation is grappling with, particularly those affecting the very people he claims to represent.
As President Ruto embarks on ambitious reforms aimed at revitalizing Kenya’s economy—akin to the transformative journeys of countries like Singapore, Malaysia, and South Korea—the Deputy President seems preoccupied with distracting rhetoric.
Kenya is at a pivotal moment, facing economic headwinds that require tough, sometimes unpopular decisions. Instead of pulling in different directions, the Deputy President and other leaders in government should rally behind the President, lending their support to policies that will ultimately benefit the entire country.
The path to economic recovery is not an easy one, and history has shown that great nations were built on the back of tough decisions and bold leadership.

It is time for the Deputy President to abandon divisive politics and refocus on helping the President tackle Kenya’s pressing challenges. The people of Kenya expect nothing less from their leaders.
In conclusion, it is incumbent upon the Deputy President to recalibrate his political messaging and realign his priorities. His recent actions have done little to inspire confidence, and his ongoing public critique of the President appears less like a genuine concern for Kenya’s future and more like a self-inflicted political war.
The DP must remember that true leadership involves supporting the President in navigating the challenges that threaten the nation’s social and economic well-being.
Political grandstanding is not the answer, and only by working together can they ensure that Kenya moves forward, not backward.
