Kenya’s Angella Okutoyi booked her place in the final of the ITF Women’s World Tour after a convincing semi-final victory at Parklands Sports Club on Friday afternoon.
The African Games champion advanced when Serbia’s Natalija Senic retired after the opening set, by which time Okutoyi had already taken control with a dominant 6-1 win.
Okutoyi will now meet Poland’s Zuzzana Pawlikowska in the final. Pawlikowska reached the decider after her semi-final opponent, Germany’s Anastasiya Kuparev, retired during the third set.
Kuparev claimed the first set 6-4, but Pawlikowska responded by winning the second 6-3 before racing to a 4-0 lead in the decider, prompting the German’s withdrawal.
In addition to her singles success, Okutoyi will partner Pawlikowska in the doubles semi-finals, where they are set to face Egypt’s Lamis Alhussein Abdel Aziz and Sandra Samir.
