Nyeri Billionaire Thuo Mathenge Urges Ruto to Intervene in DP Gachagua's Impeachment

Nyeri billionaire and The New Democrats (TND) party leader Thuo Mathenge has called on President William Ruto to step in and prevent the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Mathenge made the appeal during an interview with Inooro TV, just hours before the motion for Gachagua’s removal is set to be tabled in Parliament today, Tuesday, October 1, 2024.

The impeachment motion, scheduled for 2:30 PM, is anticipated to be one of the day’s most significant political developments.

The motion follows a High Court ruling that declined to issue interim orders halting Parliament’s proceedings on the matter.

During the interview, Mathenge expressed his concerns over the political instability that could arise from Gachagua’s ouster.

He urged President Ruto to mediate and bring unity within the government and emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the issues surrounding Gachagua’s leadership.

“We are urging the president to intervene in this situation and prevent further division in the country,” Mathenge said. “This is not just about one person; it affects the stability of the government and the country as a whole.”

More than 300 member of parliament have accused Gachagua of violating constitutional principles, including incitement and illegal acquisition of assets.

The motion requires the support of at least 233 MPs to pass, and reports suggest that 302 members of Parliament have already signed the petition, indicating substantial backing for the process.
