Nyandarua County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) John Rioba has died following a tragic nine-vehicle crash at Karai area along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
The accident which occured on Tuesday morning, June 16, which involved multiple vehicles leading to great traffic blockade on the busy highway while the emergency teams were rescuing victims trapped in the wreckage.
According to the reports, Rioba died on the spot due to the collision’s impact. His death has left his National Police Service colleagues and community members who know him through his work, mourning the loss of a dedicated security officer in the county sector.
Besides the deadly crash, a number of people were also injured, including Uasin Gishu County MCA, Regina Chumba who sustained chest injuries.
Chumba was quickly taken to the hospital for treatment but her condition wasn’t disclosed at the time of the report.
The multi-vehicle accident is a clear indication of the safety hazards that motorists have to deal with while traveling on the Nairobi, Nakuru Highway, one of Kenya’s busiest transport routes.
Besides determining the cause of the crash, the authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances of the scene as they work towards identifying the extent of the victims and damage as well.
