The National Police Service (NPS) has strengthened its collaboration with M-KOPA on crime prevention and investigations following a two-day sensitisation programme for police officers from Kisii and Migori counties.
The programme, conducted through the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA), brought together Officers Commanding Stations (OCSs) and Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officers (SCCIOs) to enhance their capacity to prevent, detect and investigate crimes involving M-KOPA’s operations and assets.
The Kisii session was held at Ufanisi Hotel on October 6, 2026, while the Migori session took place at Florence Hotel on October 7.
The sessions focused on inter-agency collaboration, crime prevention and detection strategies, investigation of M-KOPA-related cases, timely information sharing and preservation of evidence.
Participants were also urged to identify and deploy appropriately skilled investigators to handle cases involving M-KOPA, particularly those requiring specialised investigative knowledge and proper evidence management.
The programme also provided a platform for police officers and M-KOPA representatives to discuss emerging security concerns affecting the company’s operations and ways of improving cooperation when such cases are reported.
M-KOPA was represented by Edgar Samba, the company’s Global Head of Forensics and Operations, while the police sessions were presided over by senior security officials in both counties.
In Kisii, the programme was led by SSP David Sichangi, CCIO Kisii, and SSP Musa Imamo, Sub-County Police Commander, Kisii Central. In Migori, it was presided over by Migori County Police Commander Edward Imbwaga, HSC, CP.
A total of 29 officers participated in the programme, comprising 21 Officers Commanding Stations and eight Sub-County Criminal Investigations Officers drawn from the two counties.
The NPS said the initiative forms part of the NCIA’s mandate to strengthen investigative capacity within the Service while building partnerships with private-sector organisations to respond to emerging security challenges.
“The programme aimed to strengthen cooperation between the NPS and M-KOPA to prevent, detect, and investigate crimes involving the company’s operations and assets,” the DCI said.
The two-day sensitisation programme highlights the growing importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and private-sector organisations in preventing crime, improving investigations and ensuring timely sharing and preservation of information and evidence.
