Police have confirmed that nine passengers lost their lives instantly in a Tuesday afternoon accident involving a trailer and a PSV matatu in Kericho County.
According to authorities, the deceased include four women and five men.
The officers reported that both vehicles sustained extensive damage, and the bodies were taken to St. Vincent Mission Hospital mortuary in Muhoroni, where they await identification and postmortem.
The vehicles involved were towed to Kipsitet Police Station for inspection.
Earlier reports from the police indicated that several people were feared dead in the accident, which occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The police report states that the accident happened when the trailer driver, coming from Kipsitet General, lost control at Kisumu Ndogo, veering into the opposite lane and colliding with a Toyota matatu, resulting in the death of one man at the scene.
“Due to the impact, several passengers are feared dead. More information will be provided as soon as the matatu is cleared to confirm whether any bodies are trapped,” the police noted in their preliminary report.
