University stakeholders across the country have been urged to enhance practical exposure for media and film students in order to equip them with industry-ready skills.
Speaking during an interview, Miss Faith Mukundi, Managing Director of Newsline Media and Training Agency, said practical training is essential in preparing the next generation of professionals for the evolving media industry.
She emphasized the organization’s commitment to equipping students with technical and hands-on skills that align with current job market demands, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry experience.
“It is necessary that whatever is learnt in theory needs to be practical,” she said.
Mukundi further noted that the agency focuses on empowering young professionals through mentorship, hands-on training, and industry attachment opportunities that connect academic theory with real-world media practice.
She observed that the rise of digital media has transformed access to information, making it easier for individuals to learn and participate in content creation, especially through citizen journalism.
However, she pointed out that inadequate practical resources in universities and colleges remain a major challenge, limiting student exposure to real production environments.
“This limits the number of students that can be enrolled for a single programme at our centre, forcing us to further postpone our subsequent intake,” she said.
Mukundi also acknowledged initial challenges faced during the establishment of the attachment centre, particularly concerns about public acceptance. However, she noted that the initiative has since trained and impacted more than 200 professionals across diverse fields in media and communication.
