The National Youth Council of Kenya has called on young people to champion national values and ethical leadership, saying their participation is essential in building a united, accountable and just society.
The council made the call during the 2026 World Values Day celebrations held at Kenya Railways Headquarters, where government institutions and development partners reaffirmed the importance of upholding the national values and principles of governance outlined in Article 10 of the Constitution.
The event brought together representatives from the Directorate of National Cohesion and Values, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the Public Service Commission and other partner institutions.
Discussions focused on the role of national values in promoting patriotism, national unity, the rule of law, integrity, transparency, accountability and public participation.
These principles are enshrined in Article 10 of the Constitution and guide public institutions, leadership and decision-making in the country.
The National Youth Council said the values align with the Kenya Youth Development Policy 2019, which seeks to nurture a patriotic, morally upright and ethical generation capable of providing transformative leadership.
The policy also emphasises effective civic participation and the promotion of a peaceful and united Kenya.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying the role of young people in advancing national values and contributing to the country’s development.
The celebrations highlighted the importance of engaging young people in promoting ethical conduct, strengthening national cohesion and encouraging responsible citizenship across communities.
