Nation Media Group (NMG) has announced the appointment of six new directors to its board, including veteran journalist and media personality Julie Gichuru.
The announcement made on August 28, follows a sweeping board reconstitution triggered by the exit of the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED), which sold its controlling stake to Taarifa Ltd, a company owned by Rostam Aziz.
Gichuru, the Chief Executive of the Africa Leadership and Dialogue Institute, where she champions governance, innovation and leadership development across the continent, joins the board alongside Jubilee Insurance Group CEO Julius Kipng’etich and former National Bank of Kenya Managing Director Wilfred Musau.
Other appointees are technology executive Juliana Rotich, former Scangroup CEO Bharat Thakrar and Georgia Mutagahywa, Chief of Staff to the Chairman of Taifa Group of Companies, Aziz.
They replace outgoing directors Sultan Allana, Fayyaz Nurmohamed, Al-noor Ramji and Prof. Nancy Booker, who stepped down following the ownership transition.
NMG Chairman Joe Muganda said the new directors will bring experience that will help the company navigate changes in the media industry.
“They bring a strong combination of experience across media, communications, technology, digital transformation, financial services, corporate leadership, governance, marketing and stakeholder engagement,” Muganda said.
The new board inherits a company facing significant headwinds, with NMG’s first half 2026 revenue dropping 4.8% to Ksh 2.85 billion, the lowest in 21 years, while net losses widened to Ksh 357.2 million, up from Ksh 41.7 million in 2025.
NMG continues to shrink, advertising revenues remain under pressure and digital subscriptions have yet to deliver the scale needed to offset traditional declines.
