Nandi County Ministry of Health, together with Swiss Ability, has introduced a brand-new prosthetic and mobility device center at Kapsabet Referral Hospital.
This is a remarkable step to the goal of providing adequate care to people living with different physical disabilities. The building is a one-stop for the replacement of the lost limbs and also for the manufacturing, fitting, and maintaining of the mobility devices.
A number of the health staff who were trained specifically for the production of devices and the providing of the rehabilitation support were certified and thus they will be in charge of the center’s routine operations.
Health officials in the county said the center would be a great relief to the patients as they can very easily access the services without having to navigate long distances as was the case before when they had to be seeking prosthetic and mobility assistance.
“Today, patients can be given the necessary examinations, be fitted with the required devices, and be given the continuous support all this can be done at a location that is not far from their homes, so it is an assurance of timely and affordable care,” said a county health representative.
This is a project that people with disabilities will benefit a lot from it as it will greatly increase their independence and thus lead to their inclusion. It will also cut down on the costs and the hassle of undertaking long journeys to access the required services.
The County Executives are grateful to Swiss Ability for the wonderful collaboration, and they are convinced that partnerships matter a lot in the process of building a strong health care delivery system that is capable of uplifting communities.
