Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a woman suspected of using stupefying drugs to steal valuables from unsuspecting Nairobi residents.

The arrest followed an intelligence-led probe after a victim reported being drugged at a local bar in Embakasi. The man lost consciousness after a woman hugged him, later discovering that laptops, a Samsung S22, cash, and jewellery were missing from his home.

Investigators traced the suspect, Jane Wangare Ndungu, to her Ruiru residence at Havilla Apartments, where a search recovered 40 mobile phones, 14 laptops, an iPad, and other valuables, several linked to the complainant. Preliminary findings suggest she is part of a wider criminal syndicate using a stupefying substance known locally as “mchele” to incapacitate victims, then steal property and sensitive financial information for resale on the black market.

The suspect is now in custody at Embakasi Police Station as investigations continue. The DCI has assured the public that the syndicate will be dismantled and urged vigilance in social venues. Residents can report suspicious activity through official DCI channels, including toll-free 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000.
