Residents in several Nairobi estates will experience a three-day water supply disruption starting Monday, October 26, as emergency repairs are carried out on a major pipeline.

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company said the shutdown would affect the NCT-Kigoro-Gigiri-Kabete pipeline, with repair works being undertaken by the Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA).

In a notice issued on Monday, the company said the interruption would begin at 11:59 pm on October 26 and end at 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 29.

Some of the affected estates include Riverside, Lavington, Kileleshwa, Kilimani, Westlands, Parklands, Lang’ata, Karen and Upper Hill.

The shutdown is also expected to affect Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Hospital, as well as areas around Wilson Airport, Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi West and Madaraka.

Residents in Karen and neighbouring areas have also been listed among those likely to experience the interruption. Customers served by Oloolaiser Water and Sanitation Company are also expected to be affected.

In Parklands, the areas listed include Parklands Roads 1 to 5, Highridge, Suswa Road, Iregi Road and Kusi Lane, alongside sections of Limuru Road.

Westlands residents should also expect interruptions along Westlands Road, Ring Road, Muthithi Road, Chiromo Lane, Ojijo Road and Mpaka Road, including areas around Lower Waiyaki Way.

Other affected areas include parts of Ngara, such as Park Road, City Park, Desai Road, Railway Quarters, Forest Road and Kipande Road. The notice also lists areas around the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) offices and the US Embassy.

The shutdown will further affect Lower Lantana Road, Sports Road, Westlands Avenue, Upper Brookside, Muguga Green and Brookside Gardens, as well as parts of General Mathenge Road, Lower Kabete Lane and Peponi Road.

Other neighbourhoods named in the notice include Lower Kabarsiran, Kabarsiran Close, Manyani East and West, parts of James Gichuru Road, Waruku, Lower East Church Road, Lower Raphta Road and Upper Lantana Road.

Nairobi Water said the interruption was necessary to allow emergency repairs on the pipeline but did not provide further details about the damage or the work to be carried out.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to store enough water for drinking, cooking, cleaning and other essential household needs before the shutdown begins.
