The business community in Mwea, Kirinyaga county, has vowed not to entertain destruction of property during subsequent demonstrations in the town.
Speaking in Mwea, the Business Community led by their Chair Anthony Mucheke said that an estimated loss of Ksh. 200 Million was incurred during the Sabasaba protest.
Mucheke said that business owners have since formed their security teams that will work closely with government security agencies to safeguard investments.
“These are not just businesses; they are the lifeblood of families and communities. We cannot allow criminal elements to disguise themselves as protestors and destroy what people have worked for their whole lives,” said Mucheke.
He added that the newly formed security units will work in collaboration with government security agencies to ensure peace prevails in Mwea, even during politically charged periods.
