Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has come under fresh attack from President William Ruto’s allies, with Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse accusing him of trying to frustrate the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking during a church service at AIC Watuka in Mbooni Constituency on Sunday, Mutuse claimed Uhuru had turned against a leader who stood firmly behind him throughout his decade in power.
The MP said Ruto played a key role in Uhuru’s rise to power in 2013 and his successful re election in 2017, remaining loyal even when others questioned his leadership.
According to Mutuse, it was unfair for the former President to rally political forces against Ruto instead of allowing him to implement the agenda Kenyans voted for.
“President Ruto stood with Uhuru when many people did not trust him. He worked tirelessly to ensure he became President and secured a second term,” Mutuse said.
“It is therefore unfortunate for the former President to turn against the very leader who stood with him throughout his presidency.”
Mutuse further argued that the Kenya Kwanza administration was delivering projects that had stalled under the previous government, saying the current administration deserved the space to fulfil its promises.
He urged Uhuru to step away from active politics and assume the role of an elder statesman.
“It would be better for former President Uhuru Kenyatta to retire honourably and stop meddling in the political affairs of this country. Kenyans elected President William Ruto, and he should be given the opportunity to implement his development agenda without unnecessary political distractions,” he said.
The MP also called on leaders to shift their focus from early political campaigns and instead support efforts aimed at delivering development projects across the country.
This latest attack adds to the growing criticism by Kenya Kwanza leaders against Uhuru, who has in recent months remained active in national political debates despite leaving office in 2022.
