Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has urged players in private sector to invest in sports and sporting facilities.

While visiting Kirigiti International Stadium in Kiambu county, Murkomen emphasised the needs for sports facilities to be self-sustainable.

He assessed progress and work on the facility saying “I’m impressed by the work done, and we are now focused on finalising key areas, including installing seating, setting up technology infrastructure, and completing the playing field”.

“Kirigiti has spaces that can be monetised, and I invite the private sector to join us in investing in our sports facilities across the country,” he said.

He was accompanied by Kiambu County CEC for Sports, Ali Korar and area MP Machua Waithaka.

Kirigiti Stadium holds historical significance as the last venue where Kenya’s founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, addressed a rally before his detention.

“Kirigiti Stadium is an important national monument. Our goal is for youth to find their socio-economic liberation through sports in this stadium,” he stated.

The CS also revealed plans to meet with Sports Kenya to finalise the completion date, review financing, and approve all necessary requirements to conclude the renovations.

The visit is part of the government’s broader agenda to enhance sporting facilities across the country to host both local and international competitions.

This visit follows CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe’s tour of Kasarani, Nyayo, and Talanta City stadiums to assess their readiness to host CHAN 2025 and AFCON 2027.
