Multi-County Crackdown Yields Large Drug and Illegal Alcohol Seizures

Coordinated security actions in several counties have led to significant achievements for Kenya’s nearly never-ending fight against illegal drugs and illicit alcohol.

The police collaborated with multi-agency teams to use the focused force method. Not only did they manage to seize thousands of litres of illegal brews, but their efforts also led to the identification and apprehensions of several suspects. 

These activities highlight a stronger intention to dismantle the supply chains and protect communities from drug abuse.

At one point, while conducting the series of events and actions in Meru County, the officers conducted a raid in Kaguma area in Gaitu East, Imenti Central, and came across a quantity of about 1,700 litres of mogacha brew. 

At the same time, the police caught one suspect and brought them to Gaitu Police Station, where they are currently in custody waiting to be brought before the court.

Bungoma County saw a few of the good-sized recoveries made. In the Chemogee Sub-location lands, officials found 20 litres of busaa and took one suspect into custody. 

The very same day, at Mayanya Vitunguu, an operation jointly conducted by National Government Administration Officers led to the arrest of seven suspects and the confiscation of 6,430 litres of kangara and 62 litres of chang’aa.

In Nyamira County, a multi-agency team went to Miti Mbili Village, where they arrested two suspects and seized 20 litres of a substance suspected to be chang’aa.

Meanwhile, in Kiambu County, police on mobile patrol stopped a suspect carrying 24 rolls of cannabis, rolling papers and other paraphernalia related to drug distribution.

In Murang’a County, the police from Kabati Police Station recovered 35 rolls of cannabis sativa and arrested one person who was later charged. 

The seized items are currently with the Government ChemistIn Nairobi, police arrested a suspect found with 80 rolls of bhang, highlighting that the city remains a focal point in the drug trafficking.

The officials said that these raids make a point on how big the illegal drug and alcohol trade is, besides a government’s are preparing to fight it. 

They have issued an appeal for the public to continue cooperating, stating that it is the support of the community that is the most essential element in maintaining the crackdown and preventing the harmful substances from spreading nationwide.
