Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi has called for greater African representation and influence in global institutions, saying the continent’s voice must reflect its growing importance in international affairs.
Speaking during a meeting of the Ministerial Committee on African Candidatures within the International System in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mudavadi said Africa, which is home to nearly one-fifth of the world’s population, deserves fair representation and a stronger role in shaping global decisions.
“Africa’s voice in global institutions must reflect its place in the world. Home to nearly one-fifth of humanity, our continent deserves fair representation in the international system and a stronger role in shaping global decisions,” Mudavadi said.
The meeting was chaired by Botswana’s Minister of International Relations, Dr Phenyo Butale, and focused on strengthening Africa’s coordinated approach to securing leadership and professional positions within international organisations.
Mudavadi emphasised the need for African countries to continue presenting highly qualified and capable candidates who can serve with distinction while advancing the continent’s interests, aspirations and perspectives.
He said the increasing success of African candidates in international elections demonstrates the value of unity, early coordination and collective action among African states.

Mudavadi commended the African Union Commission and the Committee Secretariat for strengthening the continental coordination process, saying the efforts were helping secure greater African representation and influence in global institutions.
He added that stronger African participation in global decision-making would help ensure that the continent’s priorities and perspectives are better represented while creating long-term benefits for present and future generations.
