The staff of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, has issued a strike notice following un addressed issues.
Taken from different trade unions within the hospital, workers point to the failure to remit statutory deductions, the delayed implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), and the recent cuts in the budget as their main problems.
According to workers, non-remittance of pension contributions and union dues have made them financially unstable. They further say that delaying the implementation of the CBA terms has put a pause to the expected salary adjustments and benefits.
Furthermore, they argued tha this problems has led to feelings of uncertainty and frustration among the staff, which in turn has led to a drop in morale and productivity.
Union officials add that ongoing challenges have made it difficult for them to provide one of Kenya’s largest referral hospitals to the community and they have even gone ahead to hint that if a strike happens, it will definitely disrupt health services for thousands of patients that depend on the hospital.
Now, the hospital staff are asking the national and county governments to solve the problem before it gets worse.
