Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo has requested that enhanced security arrangements be provided for gospel singer Mary Claire, who was involved in a scary acid attack on March 17, 2026. It is alleged that Mary Claire was attacked by acid along the Ngong Road route by a man who later escaped the scene.

Despite Mary Claire being under medical attention for her injuries, her life is of great concern to her family. In a statement issued on Wednesday, March 25, MP Millie Odhiambo stated that there was a need to enhance Mary Claire’s security since the attacker might have wanted to complete the job on another day with a hired hand.

“Security should be increased around Claire. The attacker might want to finish the job maybe using a hired hand. Her family is worried because of a few recent incidents around her,” she said.

She also decried the growing culture of victim-blaming that often occurs after a violent crime has taken place. She also expressed worry over rumors that have been going around on social media that the attacker had been paying Mary Claire’s school fees.

“Who actually knows if the alleged attacker paid her fees? Yet However, people tell the stories with confidence. From a family source, it appears he did not pay her fees. Unfortunately, Mary Claire cannot confirm or deny this right now,” Odhiambo said.

This case has captured the attention of the public, and investigations are being conducted against Elvis Opiyo, who is currently being held by the law for the offense of attempting to kill someone.

According to the law, the suspect was witnessed at a medical facility near the crime scene at the time of the incident. The law is also investigating communication between the suspect and a suspected hired killer to establish whether the incident was planned.

Mary Claire’s family has urged the authorities to expedite the case to avoid further harm to the victim, while MPs and activists are calling for more protection of victims of violent attacks.
