Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has moved to court challenging the controversial elimination of Harambee Stars from the CHAN 2024 tournament.
The Kenyan national team was eliminated by Madagascar through a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw during normal play and extra time. However, Harambee Stars’ second goal in the game was controversially ruled out.
In his petition, served to CAF, the Madagascar national team, and the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), Sonko seeks interim orders to suspend the penalty shootout and the upcoming semi-finals.
The former county boss said that Harambee Stars’ goal was wrongly disallowed, denying the team a fair chance to progress.
He also poked holes in the conduct of the match officials of the game, saying their actions were greatly prejudicial to Kenya.
