Miano Lauds Renovated Ol Kalou Railway Station as a Driver for Tourism Expansion

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has expressed support for the restoration of the Ol Kalou Railway Station and the overall revival of the Nairobi-Nyahururu railway line.

She has called this improvement a game changer that will unleash the tourism potential, invigorate local economies, and help in the achievement of Kenya’s sustainable development goals.

The renewed rail linkage is expected to be a big impetus for domestic tourism, as it will offer travelers an easy, cheap, and green way of reaching some of the most picturesque and culturally enriched spots of Kenya, stated Miano.

“Bringing back the Nairobi-Nyahururu railway line isn’t just a transportation project; it’s an investment planning for a future that will rely heavily on tourism, ” remarked Miano. “By doing so, it will A lot bring down the travel expenses reduce the output of carbon emissions and create new possibilities for the communities of Ol Kalau, Nyahururu, and the Aberdare Highlands.

“The Cabinet Secretary pointed out that the railway will give direct access to world famous tourist spots like Thomson’s Falls, which is one of the country’s natural landmarks, while at the same time the areas and the lifestyle of the people will be presented in an attractive manner.

Furthermore, Miano stated that efficient rail connections will encourage tourists to visit different areas apart from the traditional ones.

According to Miano, this will not only bring benefits to the tourists but also to the local people on increased income and improved investment opportunities.

She added that such a move is in line with the government’s mission to facilitate growth that’s inclusive and that benefits not only the main cities but also the rural and emerging areas engaged in tourism.

“The railway connects the economic centers in and around Ol Kalou as well as the Aberdare region, inspiring local ventures from entrepreneurs, hospitality outlets, tour agents, farmers, and craftsmen. It’s a clear example of how good infrastructure can influence local development and have a positive impact on people’s lives, ” she explained.

Miano also commended the efforts and vision of President William Ruto in the field of infrastructure modernization.
