Preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, which will be jointly hosted by Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties, are gathering pace, with infrastructure projects and sporting activities already underway.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Friday toured the three counties to assess their preparedness to host the national celebrations.

Murkomen began his inspection tour at Kamariny Stadium in Keiyo North Sub-County, where construction is ongoing ahead of sporting events planned in the run-up to Mashujaa Day.

“The preparations for this year’s historic Mashujaa Day celebrations that will be co-hosted by Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties are in top gear,” Murkomen said.

He said the construction of Kamariny Stadium was more than halfway complete, while roads, energy, water and other infrastructure projects were also underway across the three counties.

The celebrations will also feature sporting competitions in Tot, Kerio Valley Sub-County, in what Murkomen said would mark the return of peace to the region.

Nandi County will host a national youth summit, while a sports conference, cultural competitions and other activities are planned ahead of the national celebrations.

Murkomen said the government was also undertaking other development projects, including the construction of a new county headquarters in Iten town and the upgrading of roads, water and electricity infrastructure.

“The construction of the Kamariny stadium, which will host sporting events in the run-up to the Mashujaa Day celebrations, is more than halfway done. Roads, energy, water and other projects are also underway in the three counties,” he said.
