Marsabit County is intensifying efforts to vaccinate over 204,343 children as part of a national campaign aimed at combating measles, typhoid, rubella, and tuberculosis.

The typhoid vaccine is the first to be administered in the country, spearheaded by the Government of Kenya in partnership with UNICEF.

With the campaign deadline looming, health workers across Marsabit are in a race against time to reach every eligible child.

The vaccination drive, which officially launched on Saturday, will run until Monday, targeting schools, churches, mosques, and madrassas as strategic outreach and vaccination centers.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Boru, a senior health officer in the county, emphasized the critical role of religious institutions in reaching the community.

Despite societal myths and disinformation surrounding the exercise, Daky is determined to ensure her children aren’t left behind.

According to UNICEF statistics, vaccines prevent over 4 million child mortality cases.

In Marsabit county, over 200,00 children are expected to be vaccinated. Already 24 percent of these vaccines have been administered.

The government in collaboration with UNICEF launched this campaign on Saturday and is expected to run up until Monday.

The decentralisation of vaccination services down to the schools, churches, and madrasas will help in ensuring the millions of children are protected from life threatening measles, rubella and other tuberculosis diseases.
