Manchester United played to a disappointing 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford, marking their worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy couldn’t inspire his team to replicate their recent free-scoring form from a 5-2 Carabao Cup win over a weakened Leicester City.

Chelsea, still searching for a league victory at Old Trafford in their last 12 visits, dominated much of the match.

United took the lead in the second half when Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty after Rasmus Hojlund was fouled by Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea responded quickly, with Moises Caicedo, the standout performer of the match, equalizing just four minutes later with a well-placed volley that slipped through Andre Onana’s legs following a setup from Mykhailo Mudryk.

Van Nistelrooy, constrained by injury issues, made only one change from Erik ten Hag’s last lineup before his dismissal.

The result continued United’s struggles, leaving them 13th in the table with just three wins from their first ten matches.
