Liverpool Football Club has sacked head coach Arne Slot after serving for two seasons. Arne , a 47-year- old Dutchman, led the team to their 20th league title, finishing fifth in this Premier League.
Arne joined Liverpool from Feyenoord with high expectations but struggled to replicate the club’s trademark.
Liverpool qualified for the next season’s Champions League; it finished with 60 points their lowest tally since 2025-2016 campaign, behind champion Arsenal.
“The contribution Arne has made to Liverpool FC during the time he has been with us has been significant, meaningful and most importantly of all to supporters and ourselves, successful…change is necessary in order for the club to keep moving forward,” Liverpool said in a statement.
The removal of Arne came after assessing the situation following the end of the season last weekend, as the club hierarchy believes the next phase will require more front-foot, aggressive and urgent style of football.
The sacking marks Liverpool’s managerial saga, years after the departure of Jürgen Klopp in 2024, who had defined an era of success at Anfield.
