Thousands of 2025 KCSE candidates can now begin preparing for higher education after the government officially released the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) placement results for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced that 293,869 students had been placed in universities, colleges and other tertiary institutions. Of these, 202,133 secured degree courses, 28,246 joined the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), while others were admitted to institutions including Kenya Utalii College, Diploma in Law (Paralegal) programmes and Teacher Training Colleges. For the first time, students have also been placed at Kenya Utalii College through the KUCCPS system.

Ogamba said students who wish to change their institutions or programmes will have more time to do so after the government extended the inter-institution transfer window from two weeks to one month. He also directed institutions to begin issuing admission letters and joining instructions immediately.

“Following the conclusion of the placement, the Higher Education Financing portal is now open for first-time applicants,” he said, inviting successful candidates to apply for government scholarships and student loans.

The Education CS further noted that 8,915 students who qualified for degree courses opted for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes instead, highlighting the growing popularity of skills-based education. Students can now log into their KUCCPS accounts to check the institutions and courses they have been allocated.

KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr Agnes Mercy Wahome said the placement exercise catered for 81 per cent of candidates who attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above. However, she noted that demand remained high for competitive programmes, revealing that while about 6,500 students applied for Bachelor of Medicine courses, universities had capacity for only 702 places. Meanwhile, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has also opened applications for subsequent undergraduate loans and funding for first-time university students.
