The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has crossed the KSh 1 trillion revenue collection mark, raising KSh 1.010 trillion by the end of October 2026. The milestone was achieved a month earlier than in previous financial years, signalling improved revenue mobilisation by the tax agency.
In a press release, KRA announced that it had also exceeded its October revenue target, collecting KSh 260.630 billion against a target of KSh 258.304 billion. This represented a performance rate of 100.9%, translating into an additional KSh 2.327 billion above the target.
The October collection also reflected a 15.5% growth compared to the same month in the previous year, when revenue grew by 8.0%. In October 2024, the growth rate stood at 6.5%. KRA attributed the improved performance to strong collections from both Customs and Domestic Revenue.
Customs recorded its highest monthly collection in the authority’s history, raising KSh 94.793 billion in October. The previous record was KSh 92.527 billion, collected in July 2026.
Customs exceeded its October target by KSh 1.009 billion, achieving a performance rate of 101.1% and recording 11.3% growth compared to the corresponding period in the previous financial year.
Non-oil taxes were the main driver, generating a surplus of KSh 7.243 billion and growing by 26.0%. Domestic revenue collections also exceeded expectations, reaching KSh 165.447 billion against a target of KSh 164.110 billion. This represented a surplus of KSh 1.337 billion and an annual growth rate of 18.1%. Corporation Tax recorded particularly strong growth, collecting KSh 23.932 billion against a target of KSh 20.077 billion. This represented a performance rate of 119.2% and growth of 31.6%.
Four sectors, namely electricity, manufacturing, transportation and wholesale, accounted for approximately 81% of Corporation Tax collections during the month. Domestic VAT collections reached KSh 33.367 billion against a target of KSh 33.323 billion, representing growth of 22.1%.
Meanwhile, Domestic Excise Duty exceeded its target for the first time in a prolonged period, generating a surplus of KSh 945 million and recording growth of 54.1%. The improved performance was supported by increased remittances from manufacturers of premium beer, wine, spirits and tobacco.
KRA is targeting total revenue collections of KSh 3.268 trillion by the end of the 2026/2027 financial year.
