The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has donated supplies worth KSh500,000 to the Nairobi Children’s Rescue Centre to support the welfare and improve the living conditions of about 100 children under its care.
The donation comprises foodstuffs, essential hygiene supplies and cooking gas intended to ease the centre’s operational challenges and support children, including those with health-related complications.
The items were handed over by KPA Manager for Corporate Communication Dave Jones Buchere on behalf of the authority’s Chief Executive Officer, Captain William Ruto.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Buchere said the initiative reflected KPA’s commitment to supporting vulnerable members of society, particularly children requiring care and protection.
“Today’s gesture is more than just the donation of essential supplies. It is a demonstration of our collective responsibility to nurture, protect and empower children who need care, guidance and an environment that enables them to thrive. Every child deserves hope, dignity and the opportunity to realise their full potential,” he said.
Nairobi Children’s Rescue Centre Head Margaret Kagwiria thanked KPA for the support, noting that the donation would help ease some of the challenges involved in caring for the children.
Kagwiria also commended the authority’s leadership for standing in solidarity with the centre and the wider community benefiting from its services.
The donation forms part of KPA’s corporate social investment initiatives aimed at supporting communities and improving the welfare of vulnerable groups.
The initiative comes ahead of the Kenya Ports Authority PLC Corporate Golf Tournament scheduled for Friday, October 16, at VetLab Golf Club in Nairobi.
VetLab Golf Club General Manager Shem Orwenio thanked KPA for its continued support to needy communities ahead of its corporate golf tournaments.
Orwenio said more than 250 golfers were expected to participate in the tournament, which brings together participants while supporting the authority’s broader corporate engagement activities.
The donation underscores the role of corporate social investment programmes in complementing efforts to support children’s welfare and strengthen community services.
