The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has invited interested teachers to apply for a short training program that will help them learn skills in setting exam questions.
The training, which starts on April 20, has been made available to teachers and tutors who wish to learn more about exam setting skills, especially during this time when most schools have adopted the competency-based curriculum.
The training, according to the Kenya National Examinations Council, will help teachers learn the skills to set exam questions that are clear and easy to understand, which should reflect what the students have been learning in class.
The training will help teachers who participate in the course to acquire a certificate, and some will even get an opportunity to work with the Kenya National Examinations Council in the future, which could provide them with an extra source of income.
For one to qualify to participate in the training, he or she must be a registered member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), have a minimum of three years of teaching experience, and be actively teaching.
They should also be actively engaged in teaching and recommended by their school head.
The training targets teachers in junior, senior, and primary schools, as well as those in teacher training institutions, including those in special needs education.
KNEC has said that the opportunity is mainly for those who have not before been involved in such a training program.
The applying is being done through the KNEC portal, and the deadline for applying is April 13.
This comes at a time when the government is in the process of hiring more teachers to help address the teacher shortages in some of these institutions.
