The newly established Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Gucha Campus in Kisii County has admitted its first group of students as the government moves to increase access to medical training across the country.
The campus, located in Bomachoge Chache Constituency, admitted its first cohort in September 2026, opening up more opportunities for students seeking training in healthcare-related courses within the Gusii region.
The move is part of government efforts to strengthen the country’s health workforce and support the delivery of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The campus was first proposed several years ago, with its foundation stone laid in 2018 by President William Ruto when he was serving as Deputy President.
It was later officially commissioned by President Ruto in April 2026 during his development tour of the region.
Courses offered at Gucha campus
KMTC Gucha Campus offers Diploma and Certificate programmes in Nursing and other healthcare disciplines.
The institution has modern classrooms and medical skills laboratories where students will undergo practical training as part of their studies.
Students will also undertake clinical placements at nearby health facilities, giving them an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in healthcare settings.
The campus will work closely with the KMTC Kisii Main Campus to support training and ensure students have access to additional learning and clinical resources.
The establishment of the campus is expected to make medical training more accessible to students from Kisii and neighbouring areas who would otherwise have to travel to institutions further away.
The government said it will continue expanding and strengthening health workforce training institutions in different parts of the country.
The expansion is aimed at ensuring Kenya has enough skilled healthcare workers who are well distributed across the country to meet the growing health needs of the population.
