Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has inspected the construction of Bahati Modern Market in Nakuru County, one of three markets planned for Bahati Constituency under the government’s ongoing market development programme.

The market, which is expected to cost Sh249 million, is part of efforts to improve trading facilities for small-scale traders and provide better spaces for businesses to operate.

In a statement on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Kindiki said Bahati Constituency would also have markets at Kabatini and Dundori, expanding access to modern trading facilities in the area.

Across Nakuru County, 25 markets are currently under construction, with a further four planned, according to the Deputy President. The ongoing projects are expected to cost a combined Sh2.3 billion, while the planned markets have an estimated cost of Sh715 million.

The market projects are part of the government’s wider push to upgrade trading infrastructure, particularly for small-scale traders, including those operating in open-air markets.

The completion of the facilities is expected to provide traders with improved working spaces, although their impact will depend on timely delivery, accessibility and effective management once they become operational.
