The Construction of the Kidongo Fish Landing Site in Mombasa County is progressing steadily, reaching 61% completion, under the Kenya Marine Fisheries and Socio-economic Development Project (KEMFSED).

The initiative, led by the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration, in collaboration with relevant sector agencies, aims to provide a secure and stable environment along Kenya’s water borders while supporting sustainable development of the Blue Economy.

Speaking on the progress, Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo said,

“The Kidongo Fish Landing Site will not only enhance fish handling and preservation but also create jobs, boost incomes for fisherfolk, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic growth of coastal communities.”

The facility, which began construction in August 2024, will include a modern fish bander equipped with refrigerators and an ice flaking machine, a social hall, a power house, and slope protection works to ensure safety and durability.

Currently, over 30 workers are engaged on-site, underlining the project’s role in local job creation and income generation. Ongoing works include foundation setting for the power house, painting, installation of roof tiles, and electrical wiring.

Once complete, the Kidongo Fish Landing Site is expected to reduce post-harvest losses, improve fish quality, and strengthen the fisheries value chain, bringing lasting benefits to communities along the Coast.
