The Kenya Film Classification and Licensing Board (KFCB) have officially launched its licensing services on eCitizen, providing the industry players and filmmakers with an easy way to access certification.
The board officially launched its Technical Management System (TMS)that integrates with eCitizen, Kenya’s central digital services platform. The TMS will allow filmmakers, film agents, distributors and exhibitors to apply for their licenses directly online.
For decades, filmmakers in Kenya have grappled with lengthy approval, processes, bureaucratic delays and physical paperwork. The new system will allow applications to be process in 20-25 minutes, while full-length film permits will take no more than 48 hours.
“KFCB continues to automate and digitize its services to enhance delivery and promote ease –of-doing business for film practitioners and other industry stakeholders…from the board more efficient, convenient and cost-effective for filmmakers, film agents, exhibitors and distributors,” KFCB stated.
According to KFCB, the shift is to enhance better service delivery and ease of doing business within Kenya’s growing film and audiovisual industry. The service online will cut down waiting times, allowing creatives to focus on storytelling and production rather than administrative hurdles.
