A woman of 41 years of age has been detained by the police after she was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) for trying to smuggle cocaine to Dubai drugs hidden in her body.
Anna Nekesa Kisaka was arrested by Anti-Narcotics detectives only a few minutes away from the boarding time. She had been flagged for additional checks following a tip-off and suspicious behavior that raised the alarm of the officers who had been assigned the operation.
It did not take long before the suspicions were validated.
Her body was scanned and it revealed that Nekesa had swallowed several pellets of cocaine a risky and possibly deadly method that traffickers occasionally use in the hope of bypassing airport scanners.
She was placed in medical custody, and shortly afterwards, passed three drug pellets.
Authorities say the investigations are still ongoing, and she will be arraigned in court when the file is complete. Whether she acted alone or was part of a broader trafficking network is still to be determined.
For the moment, at least, this much is clear: her journey was aborted before it even began and detectives say they’ve yet again foiled a deadly and desperate attempt to smuggle drugs into Kenya’s busiest airport.
