Kenya continues to strive itself in trade and investment. Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui has continued to lay a strong foundation for the nation as he commits to strengthening cooperation with neighboring countries such as Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, Djibouti and Eritrea.
CS Kinyanjui met with the technical team of the Horn of Africa Initiative to review progress in strengthening regional trade and investment. At the meeting he emphasized that unlocking the full potential of intra-regional trade requires in strategic investment in transport infrastructure, trade facilitation and efficient logistics corridors.
Projects like Lamu Port and the LAPSSET Corridor were highlighted as transformative links between Kenya and Ethiopia and the wider region, as they will redefine how goods and services move across the region.
These developments are not just about connectivity; they are about unlocking economic potential and reshaping the future of trade. Lamu is positioned as a transshipment hub, reinforcing Kenya’s role as a strategic logistics and investment gateway to the continent.
The growing investor interest in Lamu is already evident, as Dangote Group has expressed plans to establish an oil refinery in the area.
CS Kinyanjui stressed that the upcoming Horn of Africa Trade Ministers’ Meeting, scheduled for September 2-3, 2026 in Ethiopia, will deliver practical outcomes that will remove barriers to trade, improve border efficiency and strengthen regional value chains.
At the meeting, he was joined by PS for Trade Regina Ombam, Friederike Hemker, Head of Development Cooperation in Sudan, among others.
