Kenya and Russia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at modernizing labor inspection systems, strengthening workplace safety and improving the protection of workers in both countries.
The agreement seeks to improve the effectiveness of promoting compliance with labor laws, including occupational safety and health standards.
Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Dr. Musalia Mudavadi said the partnership would enable Kenya to benefit from Russia’s expertise in labor administration, workplace safety and employment services.
At the signing of the MoU, the Russian Federation was represented by Ms. Irina Zubkova, Acting Director General of the Federal Service for Labor and Employment (Rostrud).
The MoU will provide a framework for the two countries in exchange of expertise and best practices in labor inspection, enforcement of labor legislation, investigation of workplace accidents and management of occupational risks.
It will also promote the adoption of digital technologies to modernize labor inspection operations, strengthen monitoring systems and improve the delivery of employment services.
The two countries agreed it will establish a Joint Committee to oversee the implementation comprising senior officials from the participating institutions within 60 days of signing the agreement.
Musalia noted the collaboration would support Kenya’s efforts in promoting decent work, improve workplace safety, strengthen labor administration and expand employment opportunities for its citizens.
