Kenya has signed a diplomatic cooperation agreement with Antigua and Barbuda aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and expanding collaboration in trade, investment, tourism and other strategic sectors.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Diplomatic and Political Consultations was signed by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei and Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Sharon Stevens.
The signing took place during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
According to the Kenya High Commission in Kingston, Jamaica, the agreement establishes a formal framework for regular diplomatic engagements and consultations between the two countries.
The arrangement is expected to strengthen political dialogue while creating opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual economic and strategic interest.
“Discussions focused on cooperation in trade, investment, labour migration, tourism and culture,” the Kenya High Commission in Jamaica said.
The discussions also explored opportunities to deepen economic ties, particularly through trade and investment partnerships that could benefit businesses and citizens in both countries.
During the meeting, Sing’Oei also sought Antigua and Barbuda’s support for Kenya’s candidate for the International Criminal Court (ICC), Justice Njoki Ndung’u.
The request forms part of Kenya’s broader diplomatic engagements as it seeks to mobilise international support for its candidate in global judicial institutions.
The agreement signals Nairobi’s continued efforts to expand its diplomatic and economic partnerships beyond Africa, with the Caribbean emerging as an important area for engagement.
Through the Kenya High Commission in Kingston, the government is seeking to strengthen relations with Caribbean nations and identify opportunities for cooperation in trade, labour mobility, tourism and cultural exchange.
The High Commission reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the partnership between Kenya and Antigua and Barbuda through sustained diplomatic engagement and implementation of the areas identified in the agreement.
