Kenya is looking for more partnerships and investment in the water sector as government officials attend the World Water Week 2026 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Principal Secretary for Water and Sanitation Julius Korir and Water Secretary Samuel Alima are representing Kenya at the meeting, which has brought together water experts, government officials and development partners from different countries.
The Kenyan delegation has been holding discussions on how the country can improve access to water and sanitation services and find more money to finance projects in the sector.
One of the areas under discussion is the Water as Leverage programme, which looks at ways of using water projects to support wider development.
The officials are also discussing blended financing and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) as possible ways of bringing more private money into water projects.
Also under discussion is the question of how water resources that are common between Kenya and neighboring nations should be managed.
The authorities hope that these discussions will help establish partnerships that will finance various projects aimed at providing access to water and sanitation facilities in the country.
At the same time, the conference provides Kenya with an opportunity to see how other countries solve their water problems and how they finance big projects.
Kenya has been searching for ways of funding water infrastructure because the need for access to water and sanitation keeps growing.
It is expected that the talks held in Stockholm will help the country make new partnerships with development organizations and investors.
