Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan has reaffirmed Kenya, China its commitment to strengthening economic and diplomatic ties with Kenya following the recent visit by Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. Speaking during a briefing to Kenyan journalists and scholars, the Ambassador said the March 22-25 visit underscored the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.
According to Ambassador Guo, the policy will allow duty- free access for goods from 53 African countries, including Kenya to the Chinese market. “This will significantly lower export cost, expand market access and boost income and job creation across Africa,” said Ambassador Guo. Both the countries emphasised for stronger cooperation amid global economic uncertainty.
President William Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to the One-China policy and expressed appreciation for China’s continued support in development and infrastructure. Both countries signed key agreements, including an early harvest deal under a broader economic partnership and Ksh 260 million (USD 2 million) grant from China. This will position Kenya as a regional gateway for Chinese business entering Africa.
