Keyya plans to advocate for a working structure on digital interoperability and cross-border data sharing at the 2026 Connected Africa Summit to be held in Nairobi next week, as the country is willing to support the African digital transformation drive.

Information, Communications and Digital Economy Minister William Kabogo said that the results of the summit will be transmitted via the African Union institutional frameworks for their continental implementation.

The major event will be an opportunity to gather Heads of State ministers regulators, industry experts, private sector leaders investors development partners, and ICT sector players from across Africa to explore the ways of practical digital inclusion and innovation.

Kabogo acknowledged that the conference will present a pipeline of projects that can be implemented and provide solutions to Africa’s social-economic challenges, including concentrating on digital skills, digital infrastructure, and online services.

The World Bank states that Africa’s digital economy is estimated to increase from Ksh 2. 9 trillion in 2024 to Ksh 5. 9 trillion in 2029, revealing major rise and expansion of the digital market in the coming years.

However, even with fast growth, a large number of people in Africa cannot access digital services due to poor infrastructure, high connectivity costs, and digital illiteracy.

Kenya is now positioning itself as a hub for collaboration, innovation, and policy action aimed at bridging the continent’s digital divide and unlocking Africa’s digital economy potential.
