Kenya is preparing to host a historic football encounter between German giants FC Bayern Munich and Dutch side AFC Ajax Amsterdam on January 5, 2027, to officially inaugurate the Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City.
In a press statement issued on November 5, 2026, the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports confirmed that preparations for the high-profile match are at an advanced stage, with ticket sales and accessibility arrangements forming part of the event’s planning.
The encounter will bring together two of Europe’s most successful clubs, both of which have won the UEFA Champions League multiple times, marking a significant moment for Kenya’s sporting industry.
The government says the event is part of its broader ambition to position Kenya as a leading destination for international sporting competitions, boost sports tourism, attract investment and generate economic opportunities.
Beyond football, spectators will enjoy a 12-hour fan festival, dedicated concierge services, international entertainment featuring leading artists and activities celebrating sporting excellence and Kenya’s sporting heroes.
The ministry said the event is being organised to deliver an exceptional sporting and entertainment experience while showcasing Kenya’s capabilities to international audiences.
The inauguration is also expected to highlight the country’s investment in modern sporting infrastructure and efforts to ensure such facilities remain commercially viable and financially sustainable.
