Kenya and Norway have reaffirmed their strong bilateral ties following a high-level meeting held on Friday, March 6, between Prime Cabinet Secretary(CS) Musalia Mudavadi and Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed ways to deepen cooperation in climate action, sustainable development, trade, and regional peace initiatives.

Kenya noted that Norway remains a key partner in supporting the country’s transition to a greener economy, particularly through collaborations in clean energy and sustainable transport.

Part of the discussions focused on Kenya’s efforts to accelerate electric mobility through the development of the National Electric Mobility Policy.

Norwegian support has been instrumental in advancing initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transport systems.

“Norway continues to be a strong partner as Kenya advances its green transition and climate resilience agenda,” CS Musalia Mudavadi said, noting that cooperation in clean energy and environmental protection is helping drive long-term development.

The meeting also explored opportunities to expand trade and investment between the two countries.

Bilateral trade between Kenya and Norway reached about USD 54.3 million in 2024, with Kenya exporting products such as cut flowers, coffee, fruits and vegetables while importing fertilizers, fish products and industrial inputs.

Kravik said Norway is keen to expand economic collaboration with Kenya, particularly in emerging sectors.

“Kenya presents significant opportunities for Norwegian investment, especially in renewable energy, agriculture and the blue economy,” Kravik said during the March 6 discussions.

The talks further highlighted cooperation in the Blue Economy and fisheries, including ongoing marine research supported by the EAF-NANSEN research vessel along Kenya’s coastline.

The initiative helps scientists study marine ecosystems and promotes sustainable fishing practices.

Both sides also reaffirmed their shared commitment to regional peace, climate resilience and multilateral cooperation, signaling continued collaboration between Kenya and Norway on global and regional challenges.
