Kenya and Kazakhstan have reviewed progress in their digital cooperation following a bilateral meeting between Information, Communications and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo and a delegation from Kazakhstan in Doha, Qatar.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26), brought together Kabogo and a delegation led by Doszhan Mussaliyev, Kazakhstan’s Vice-Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development.
Mussaliyev was accompanied by Yerzhan Tasmukhan, Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister, and Daniyar Meirbekov, Director of International Cooperation and Investments.
Kabogo said the discussions focused on reviewing progress made since the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries in May, witnessed by President William Ruto and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana.
The two sides agreed that their respective officials would take the necessary steps to advance the commitments outlined in the agreement.
The meeting also explored cooperation at the ongoing ITU conference, particularly Kenya’s bid for re-election to the ITU Council representing Region D, Africa, for the 2027–2030 term.
Kenya has served on the ITU Council since 1982, with Kabogo reaffirming the country’s commitment to promoting connectivity and digital skills across Africa and beyond.
The engagement signals continued efforts by Kenya and Kazakhstan to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in artificial intelligence, digital development and international cooperation.
Kabogo shared details of the meeting in a statement, concluding with the Kazakh expression “Rakhmet,” meaning thank you.
