President William Ruto has said Kenya has the potential to transition into a first-world nation within the next three decades if its citizens remain united and committed to national development.
Speaking during a church service at St. Peter’s ACK Cathedral in Siaya County, Ruto drew parallels with South Korea, Singapore, and China — countries that transformed their economies in under a generation. He argued that Kenya has the resources, human capital, and policy direction necessary to follow a similar trajectory.
“Singapore was at the same level as Kenya 60 years ago. Today they are in the first world, while we are still struggling in the third world. Let me tell you, good people, we can change this Kenya in the next 30 years, in our lifetime. We can make this country go to the first world,” Ruto said. The President pointed to recent economic milestones, including a doubling of savings at the National Social Security Fund from KSh320 billion to KSh640 billion, reduced dependence on food imports through increased investment in agriculture, and major infrastructure projects in housing, health, and education funded without external borrowing.
He urged leaders across political divides to rally behind a shared national vision, warning that corruption and lack of accountability had long undermined Kenya’s progress.
“This country, if we stand together, if we are focused, if we are patriotic, if we are accountable, Kenya is going to change in our lifetime,” Ruto said. The President insisted that with greater discipline in savings, investment in production, and a crackdown on graft, Kenya can replicate the success stories of Asian economies and secure prosperity for future generations.
