Kenya and World Bank are working to speed up health sector reforms through two major projects worth a combined USD 335 million.
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale held talks with World Bank officials led by Ronald Mutasa on Thursday, September 3, to discuss how the investments can be used to improve healthcare services across the country.
The funding will support the Building Resilient and Responsive Health Systems (BREHS) Project and the Kenya Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience (KHEPRR) Project.
Improving access to healthcare services will be central to ensuring that PHC is strengthened and services provided at Level 2 and Level 3 health facilities improved so that quality care is delivered within reach of citizens rather than forcing them to seek medical services far away from their respective locations.
These projects will also enable Kenya to get ready for any public health emergency while at the same time being prepared to handle health challenges that may arise.
Duale said that the Ministry of Health will work hand in hand with the World Bank to ensure that the funding is used to improve the health infrastructure of the country.
The CS emphasized the importance of making sure that the investments made in the health sector deliver the desired fruits by ensuring an accessible and responsive healthcare system.
