Kenya and the United States have renewed discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation in the health sector following a high-level meeting held at Afya House in Nairobi.
The meeting, chaired by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Ouma Oluga, brought together officials from the Kenyan government and members of the United States House Foreign Affairs Committee to discuss the implementation of the Kenya–US Health Cooperation Framework signed in December 2025.
According to the Ministry of Health, the talks were about increasing cooperation in important fields like disease prevention and response, improvement of health care system and other common health interests listed in the accord.
In addition, there was also talk about the need to foster a sense of collaboration, transparency and accountability in handling health programs and investments.
Both sides stressed that strategic investment is crucial in enhancing service delivery in healthcare facilities for improved health outcomes among the citizens.
The US team was led by Brandon Ramsay, who was accompanied by Allison Cantrell, Sally Okutoyi and Leah Hasselback.
Important officials from Kenya’s Ministry of Health also joined the consultations.
The discussion takes place at a time when Kenya has continued looking for partnerships to enhance healthcare provision, surveillance, and response mechanism, especially after lessons drawn from previous health emergencies experienced globally.
The Kenya-US Health Cooperation Framework is expected to help the two countries work together on health projects in various fields including public health, medical research and financing.
