The head of the Kenya Air Force, Major General Bernard Waliaula, has been in Germany for talks aimed at improving pilot training and enhancing the country’s defense ties.
The Major General was accompanied by the Director of Military Intelligence Major General Mohammed Burje and a team of senior officials from the Kenya Defense Forces. While in the country, the officials visited Grob Aircraft SE, a company involved in the manufacturing of training planes used by several air forces across the globe.
The officials visited the company with the aim of addressing some of the challenges affecting the country’s pilot training programs. Among the key issues addressed during the talks was the maintenance of the planes and how the training programs could be run without any interruptions.
Sources who are aware of the proceedings during the visit claimed that the Kenyan officials were keen on ensuring the planes are in good condition and the pilots are able to accumulate the required flying hours without interruptions.
While addressing the officials from the German company, Major General Waliaula emphasized the need for the country’s defense forces to work closely with trusted partners in the maintenance of safety standards and ensuring the air crew is ready for duty at all times.
On his part, Major General Burje noted that proper maintenance is crucial in the aviation sector since even the slightest delays could jeopardize the training programs.
The officials from the German company, led by the company’s Chief Executive Officer Wolfgang Gammel, agreed to support the country’s pilot training program through technical cooperation.
The visit is part of the efforts by the Kenya Defense Forces aimed at modernizing the country’s defense forces through the acquisition of modern technologies and enhancing the country’s defense ties.
