Motorists using Mayoni-Bungoma (Kanduyi) Road will have to encounter some difficulties for the coming two weeks as KeNHA has announced a partial closure of the road in preparation for the maintenance project.

The closure will be for the dual carriageway section between Musikoma Roundabout and Kanduyi Junction on the A8, as confirmed by the traffic authority.

In a press release issued on Sunday, January 18, Director General of KeNHA, Luka Kimeli, announced that the closure of these roads would be done in phases, so as not to cause much inconvenience yet pave way for surface dressing.

According to the plan, the lane headed to Kanduyi will be closed from Monday, January 19, at 6am to Sunday, January 25, at 6pm. The other lane headed to Mayoni will be closed from Monday, January 26, at 6am to Sunday, February 1, at 6pm.

“The dualing process of the Mayoni-Bungoma Road, connecting the Musikoma Roundabout to the Kanduyi Junction, involving A8 road, will be affected,” said Kimeli.

He appealed to road users to exercise caution when approaching the area in question and to comply with what would have been put in place for the flow of traffic.

The drivers were asked to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals, who will be stationed along the route to control traffic flow, to further ensure safety during the construction process.

This comes in the wake of road construction work on another major road in the country. The KeNHA last week pointed out the anticipated traffic delays along the route that connects Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to James Gichuru Road due to the beginning of the road expansion project.

According to the authority, construction work on the 27 kilometer road corridor in the James Gichuru-JKIA route commenced Thursday January 15.

Motorists have been urged to plan their routes in advance, with extra time taken into account, as works continue on both routes.
