Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has pledged to champion the interests of residents in Kenya’s coastal region, citing land injustices, evictions, unemployment, poverty and limited opportunities for young people as some of the major challenges facing the region.
Speaking on Saturday, August 29, 2026, in Voi Town, Taita Taveta County, Kalonzo said the coastal region continues to face longstanding challenges that require decisive political action.
He said land injustices and evictions remain key concerns for communities in the region, alongside unemployment and limited economic opportunities for young people.
“The challenges facing our coastal region are real, from land injustices and evictions to unemployment, poverty and lack of opportunities for our young people,” Kalonzo said.
The Wiper leader said the Wiper Patriotic Front was determined to stand with coastal communities and fight for what he described as the region’s rightful share of Kenya’s resources and opportunities.
Kalonzo thanked residents of Voi for what he described as a massive turnout during his engagement with the community, saying the reception demonstrated growing support for his political movement.
He said the party would continue engaging residents on issues affecting their livelihoods while pushing for policies aimed at addressing economic and social challenges in the region.
The former Vice President particularly highlighted the need to create more opportunities for young people, saying unemployment and poverty continue to affect many families across the coastal region.
Kalonzo also called for greater attention to land-related grievances, which have remained a major political and social issue in parts of the Coast.
He said coastal residents deserve to benefit from the region’s resources and from national development opportunities.
