Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Party, has accused the administration of William Ruto of using security forces to block his supporters from attending a church service in Meru County.

In a press statement, Musyoka said police officers, acting under instructions from Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, physically barred entry to Methodist Church Kenya at Kaaga, where the induction of Bishop Muthuia Mwiti was set to take place.

He described the incident as a deliberate violation of constitutional freedoms, including the rights to worship, assemble, and associate, calling it an act of political repression.

Musyoka urged faith-based organisations, including the National Council of Churches of Kenya, and the Law Society of Kenya to condemn the government’s actions, warning that the weaponisation of police against citizens must not go unchallenged.

“As your United Alternative Government, we will not merely celebrate women on one day of the year. We will build institutions that protect women, policies that empower women economically, and a culture in leadership that does not just tokenize women but genuinely elevates them. The 30% constitutional threshold for women’s representation is a minimum, not a ceilin,”he said.

The Wiper leader also highlighted the contribution of women to national development, noting the timing of the incident on International Women’s Day, and pledged that his party would promote policies to strengthen women’s economic empowerment and political representation.

Musyoka and his supporters subsequently held their service at East Africa Pentecostal Church, Njotene Parish in Buuri Constituency, affirming their commitment to worship freely and continue their political activities despite what he termed “unconstitutional interference.”
